Upcoming English Horror movies 2012 – part 3

Synopsis: “The original REC crew are back, ready to submit their ensemble cast to another fight for survival against the zombie infection. This time to the backdrop of an original soundtrack. The new chapter will see the film “open up” by using a more traditional cinematographic style. However, the film’s roots have not been forgotten, and viewers will still be immersed in the action watching certain events unfold through the eye of the video camera. The action in REC 3 GENESIS encompasses the events of the first two films and after the sense of claustrophobia previously experienced.

Synopsis: Heather Mason and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t fully understand,Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by horrific nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she’s not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her forever.

Synopsis: A UN representative, writing a report on the great zombie war, interviews survivors in the wake of World War Z. Based on the Max Brooks novel World War Z which I haven’t yet read but definitely will soon. The novel is essentially a collection of interviews with survivors in the aftermath of the zombie apocalypse. The movie’s success will probably depend on how faithful it is to the book, after all I don’t think anybody wants to see another generic zombie film.

Synopsis: When human forces discover the existence of the Vampire and Lycan clans, a war to eradicate both species commences. The vampire warrioress Selene leads the battle against humankind. The fourth Underworld movie sees the return of Kate Beckinsale as Selene, which is great because she is basically the only reason I would even consider watching this. Also starring Charles Dance, Michale Ealy & Kris Holden-Ried. Hits theatres January 2012.

Synopsis: President Lincoln’s mother is killed by a supernatural creature, which fuels his passion to crush vampires and their slave-owning helpers. I don’t care if this movie ends up being shit, I still want to watch it just to see Honest Abe slaughtering a bunch of vampires. Based on the novel by Seth Grahame-Smith, who also wrote the screenplay. Hits theatres June 21 2012.

Synopsis: By day Abby Russell is a dedicated nurse, someone you wouldn’t hesitate to trust your life with. But by night, her real work begins…using her smoldering sexuality she lures cheating men to their brutal deaths and exposes them for who they really are. When a younger nurse starts to suspect Abby’s actions and compromises her master plan, Abby must find a way to outsmart her long enough to bring the cheater you’d least expect to justice.Paz de la Huerta plays a nurse who cares for patients by day, but spends her nights ‘targeting and punishing’ evil men.

Synopsis: A group of rude and insensitive city kids take a weekend vacation to Briar Lake, a picturesque town overlooking a beautiful lake, which to most outsiders would appear to be a peaceful small town. Having zero respect for anyone outside of their group, they are confronted by the hostile and eccentric residents. Following a bizarre experience in the town’s diner, they quickly retreat to the protection of their borrowed vacation lake house, where they plan to let loose and celebrate their weekend out of the city. After an unexpected visit from the local police, the long weekend is cut short.

A remake of the 1989 movie of the same name, The Woman In Black stars Daniel Radcliffe. Although this is not his first non-Harry Potter role, it will be interesting to see how he does, because for a lot of people this will be the first time they will see him not playing the boy wizard. The movie hits theatres February 3rd 2012. Synopsis: A young lawyer travels to a remote village where he discovers the vengeful ghost of a scorned woman is terrorizing the locals.

Exorcism movies in recent years (Exorcismus, The Rite, The Last Exorcism) have really sucked. Seeing the trailer for this new one though, has me actually looking forward to it. Release date is set for February 16th 2012. Synopsis: In Italy, a woman becomes involved in a series of unauthorized exorcisms during her mission to discover what happened to her mother, who allegedly murdered three people during her own exorcism.

As academics speculate on the scientific cause of the phenomena, theologians point to the Armageddon foretold in the Book of Revelation. Tyler Crawley needs his friends, now more than ever. Recovering from mental stress in the wake of his mom’s death, Tyler has been counting on a weekend with the guys to bring him back to normal. For Tyler’s sake his old buddies rally themselves, though the “glue” which keeps them together has weakened with the passing of recent years — a natural enough occurrence.

Focuses on two television crews of paranormal experts: one team of skeptics looking to de-bunk myths about ghosts and another consisting of believers looking to prove their existence. Teaming up for the first time for a special episode, the crews get more then they bargained for when they actually make contact with a spirit of tremendous power and must band together to stop it before it destroys them all.

Based on true events, the movie is about a family that unwittingly brings a supernatural force home with them from vacation. Feeding off their own fears, the evil presence threatens to destroy them from within as it takes over their lives and home, with terrifying results. Whenever I read a synopsis for a supernatural horror film and it includes the words ‘based on true events’ it puts me off straight away.
